I live in California and I'm driving to Nevada for a trip. Both states have legal recreational cannabis. Can I bring cannabis from California to Nevada in my car? What about flying between legal states?

Interstate transportation of cannabis is a federal crime under the Controlled Substances Act, regardless of the laws in the states you are traveling between. When you cross a state line, you are in federal jurisdiction. The fact that both states have legalized cannabis does not change federal law.
The I-15 corridor between Los Angeles and Las Vegas crosses the California-Nevada state line. If you are stopped by federal law enforcement (Border Patrol, DEA, FBI) or if local law enforcement refers your case federally, you could face federal charges for transporting cannabis across state lines.
In practice, the risk of federal prosecution for personal amounts is low — federal prosecutors generally focus on large-scale trafficking. But the legal risk is real, and Nevada law enforcement at the state line has been known to confiscate cannabis from California travelers.
Flying is even riskier. Airports are federal jurisdiction. The TSA (Transportation Security Administration) is a federal agency. While TSA's primary mission is security, not drug enforcement, TSA agents are required to refer drug discoveries to law enforcement. Flying with cannabis — even between legal states — risks federal charges and confiscation.
Some airports in legal states (LAX, SFO, Denver) have adopted policies of not actively searching for cannabis and not referring small amounts to law enforcement. But this is a policy choice, not a legal protection, and it can change.
The safest approach is to purchase cannabis in the state you are visiting. Nevada has excellent dispensaries in Las Vegas. Purchasing locally is legal, avoids federal transportation risk, and supports the local legal market.
Bottom Line: Don't transport cannabis across state lines. The legal risk, while often low for personal amounts, is real and unnecessary when legal dispensaries are available at your destination.

Practical experience to add: I've flown through Las Vegas (Harry Reid International) dozens of times. The airport has a policy of not actively searching for cannabis and has amnesty boxes where you can dispose of cannabis before security. But this is not a legal protection — it's a practical accommodation.
I've also driven the I-15 many times. The California-Nevada border has an agricultural inspection station (not a drug checkpoint), but Border Patrol does operate in the area. The risk is real even if it's not high for personal amounts.
Just buy in Nevada. The dispensaries on the Strip are excellent and the selection is great. It's not worth the legal risk.
