Caryophyllene

The only terpene that directly activates cannabinoid receptors — a dietary cannabinoid.

Beta-caryophyllene is unique among terpenes: it is the only terpene known to directly bind to and activate CB2 cannabinoid receptors, making it a functional cannabinoid as well as a terpene. This gives it potent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and neuroprotective properties without psychoactive effects. It is found in black pepper, cloves, and many culinary herbs.
